WINES FROM BORDEAUX
The Bordeaux region is home to some of the finest and most prestigious wines in the world. 88% of wine produced in Bordeaux is red with notable sweet white wines such as Château d'Yquem, dry whites, rosé and sparkling wines all
making up the remainder. Bordeaux wines are crafted by 10,000 producers or châteaux from the grapes of 13,000 grape growers. There are 57 appellations of Bordeaux wine.
We currently use 2 different brokers for our bordeaux wines Ginestet, and Ballande & Meneret.
For 100 years, GINESTET has been associated with the wine history of Bordeaux and its prestigious wines. Starting out as a wine broker GINESTET quickly became owner of several prestigious Grands Crus Chateaux. This double role of property owner and wine broker created in a relatively short period of time an incontestable renown as a quality wine producer in France and abroad.
Ballande & Meneret have specialised in Grands Crus Classés for more than 20 years in Bordeaux, and are today one of the leader on the export market.

2009 CHÂTEAU DE MACARD · BORDEAUX SUPÉRIEUR
+745296 · 12x750ml
Toasty, spicy oak on the nose. Red and black fruits on the palate – ripe plum and cherry notes. There is an extra bit of ripeness here that I think is typical of the Right Bank in 2009. The character of the vintage also shows through in the fine tannins that emerge on the finish. A terrific value in an everyday Bordeaux.

70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. Big, yet racy. The '99 vintage shows blackberry aromas, with a hint of spice, and is full-bodied, with a solid core of fruit, firm tannins and a dark chocolate and coffee aftertaste. Wonderful texture. Goes on and on.

2008 CHÂTEAU BELLE-VUE · HAUT MÉDOC
+744966 · 12x750ml
Château Belle-Vue 2008 displays a dense, long and powerful wine, similar to the 2006 vintage. The 2008 probably has more sweetness. Thanks in part to its higher-than-usual proportion of Petit Verdot, the natural freshness of the wine should give it ageing potential in excess of 10 years.

Semillon-Sauvignon blend. Some golden glints of color. On the nose, aromas of grapefruit, white peach and orange blossom. In the mouth, the attack is straight and full. The aromas of Sauvignon are very expressive but we also feel the strength of the Sémillon that is going to develop. This wine should not be served too chilled in order to preserve its aromatic qualities.

Semillon-Sauvignon blend. Typical of the huge power of Guiraud, this is one of the richest Sauternes in 2005. The wine is rich and intense, the dry edge of botrytis just dominating the sweetness. Flavors of honey, almonds and peaches give the wine extra complexity.

1998 CHATEAU D'YQUEM · SAUTERNES AOC
+742354 · 3x375ml
A decent lemon-gold. Showing some botrytis on the nose. Greater complexity immediately apparent. More serious wine than the 1999, for certain. Rich, oily, very concentrated. Candied fruit again, the Noble rot not showing here as on the nose. Good depth and interest though, orange and apricot flavour, and well balanced acidity. This will improve I am sure. A good wine from what is an under-rated vintage.

1999 CHATEAU D'YQUEM · SAUTERNES AOC

The 1999's light gold color is accompanied a gorgeous perfume of caramel, honeysuckle, peach, apricot, and smoky wood. Full-bodied and unctuously-textured, with good underlying acidity as well as loads of sweetness and glycerin, it looks to be a great vintage for this renowned Sauternes estate. Note: Yquem spends 42 months in 100% new oak.

2007 SARGET DE GRUAUD-LAROSE · ST. JULIEN AOC
+720261 · 12x750ml
Sarget de Gruaud-Larose is the second wine of Deuxième Cru, Château Gruaud-Larose. Iron fruit on the nose here, dark and restrained, lightly crunchy, tinged with violets. The palate has a lean elegance, well composed but not particularly concentrated. It has a rather solid outer shell, but I can't deny that it is attractively fresh and clean for the vintage.

2008 LAROSE DE GRUAUD · ST. JULIEN AOC
+737781 · 12x750ml
From Chateau Gruaud Larose – a classified 2nd growth. Very aromatic with hints of wet stone, mineral, cedar and warm black currant. Like any Old World wine, this speaks to the terroir. The flavor profile shows rich blackberry, coffee, currant, fig paste and cocoa powder resulting in an elegant, yet rich display of fruit. Supple tannins are balanced by the slightest glimmer of acidity. Still a bit tight, as it could use another couple years in the bottle.

1995 CHÂTEAU FERRIERE · MARGAUX
+742341 · 12x750ml
The 1995 exhibits an impressively saturated ruby/purple color, and an attractive nose of sweet toasty oak, licorice, and jammy black fruits. In the mouth, the attack begins well, with good ripeness, purity, and fruit, but it narrows out with an uninspiring mid-palate, and gobs of tannin in an astringent, tough-textured finish. The tannin should become better integrated with another 4-5 years of bottle age.
