ALKOOMI WINES

Alkoomi Wines has received a ‘Red 5 Star’ rating by James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion 2010. The ‘Red 5 Star’ Award is a highly coveted recognition bestowed only on outstanding wineries which regularly produce wines of excellent quality. Recipients must have had at least two wines rated 94 points or above, and the winery must have had a 5 star rating for the previous two years. This is Alkoomi’s consecutive 3rd Red 5 Star Rating and it is further testament to Alkoomi’s commitment to producing world class wines.

The Alkoomi vineyards and winery are located in the Frankland River district of Western Australia’s Great Southern wine region. Merv and Judy Lange established Alkoomi in 1971 and in 2010 handed the reins of the 80,000-case estate to their daughter Sandy and her husband Rod Hallett. Since climatic conditions are similar to those of Bordeaux in France, it is not surprising that this region produces some of the best wines made in Australia. The name Alkoomi is taken from local aboriginal dialect and means ‘a place we choose’. The logo represents a distinctive Australian plant which grows in the area.

2017 RIESLING

+716834 · 12x750ml

100% Riesling. The Riesling from our estate grown fruit was harvested in the early hours of the morning in late February.  The free run juice of each parcel is fermented separately.  The resulting wine is a fine-tuned blend created from parcels including the original planting of 1971, through to a block of Geisenheim clone, planted in 2003.

Brilliant pale straw with emerald flecks. Delicate yet intense flavours of lemon, lime and musk. Bright, sherbety and lively on the palate with a lingering mineral acidity. Drinking well now, this wine will cellar well for up to ten years. Enjoy with chicken, fish, seafood dishes; or just relaxing on the patio.
